The State Academic band “Alex Fokin RadioBand” of the State Television and Radio Committee of Ukraine is the unique orchestra of the soloists – instrumentalists, with really exceptional store of various, professionally designed musical ideas. Each stage performance of the orchestra is the outstanding event in the musical life of Ukraine, for the star collection of the collective counts the mutual appearances together with the world - wide famous performers and orchestras, like:

• vibraphonist, singer and composer, the forefather of the acid jazz style Roy Ayers,
• grand multi – saxophonist Eric Marienthal,

• legendary Russian jazz big-band under the guidance of Oleg Lundstrem, -one of the oldest orchestras in the world (was founded in the year 1936 and is currently active from that very time).

Alexander Fokin – the creator of the idea, founder, unchangeable artistic and music leader, composer, leading arrangements` maker in the orchestra, sound producer has developed long ago his own vision on the modern masterly orchestral culture. He is convinced that in order to gain the respect from the music world, each leader is supposed to fulfill the main task, which is to gather and organically unite in the band both the young talents and the elderly and eminent performers. First ones are the bearers of the powerful and stylish modern musical energy while others have the enormous and varied musical experience as well as the filigree mastery. Thus, thanks to this kind of unification that is actually the result of the many years music talents selection process, the famous orchestra now has the mighty powerful and explicit rhythm – section while the front line of the wind instruments` players is formed of the bright talented soloists – performers. Of course, the mutual success is also being favoured by the brilliant arrangements of the orchestra` s leader.

The striking example of the alike tactics and approach towards the organizing the highly professional music collective of the highest level is one of the most outstanding music long –liver leader of the world orchestral stage –Quincy Jones whose bands during many years, have been honoured with a presence of both the great music figures and the talented youth.

The State orchestra “Alex Fokin RadioBand” was officially founded on the 1st December 1999 year, yet the very idea of the collective` s foundation occurred already in the 1998, when during the search of the rehearsals` location for the former colleagues who missed playing music, Maestro Alexander Fokin realized: that was the time to create the band of the best instrumentalists.

At present, the “RadioBand” is a unique European orchestra, so called “Swedish cast” or combo that gained its recognition as one of the best collectives in the world. Accordingly to say, there is no more all – the –time active alike orchestral cast existing in America, yet there recently was just one of the kind that referred to the already gone trumpeter Maynard Ferguson. Still, there is the international “sessional” (meaning temporary) music cast of the German pianist Nils Gessinger, in Europe.

The leading motive principle of the successful sounding of the orchestra and its definitive feature is the audio- and video- recordings made only in the “live mode” format. This is the universal orchestra that plays serious, compound instrumental music in the following styles: jazz, funk, fusion, latin as well as popular and dance music. The musicians play their own original arrangements of the world musical creations` best standards, also the author` s music, instrumental versions of the popular music hits, etc.

Alexander Fokin has provided into life his old dream creating the unique European – class band. Apart from the rhythm – section, the combo` s cast is necessarily supposed to include: 6 wind instruments players, - 3 saxophones, 2 trumpeters and 1 trombonist. This musical collective is bigger than ensemble, yet smaller than classic big –band, but in the ideal, it should sound like the full –fledged big orchestra.

It is done for a reason, because the skill of playing each of the musical instruments becomes definitive for the sounding of the whole orchestra. That is why, while listening to the “Alex Fokin RadioBand”, one gets the impression of the big orchestra sound. Another specific feature is that the alike orchestral cast` s format prevents musicians from the “hiding behind the back of the colleague” and, despite from the traditional big – band, the second, third stand – in voices submitted to the band` s leader that cause the duplicating of the parts and their amplification, etc. are absent, and each member of the orchestra performs even the second parts with equal responsibility for the sound quality, as if playing the “solo”. What the clumsy big – bands are not able to play stylistically authentic, for instance, the modern popular music that is enough aggressive and built up on the modern tempos, is quite achievable task for the “Alex Fokin RadioBand”. As they joke in the “RadioBand”, - “our” two trumpeters are to play as “their” four ones, and three “ours” saxophonists play as “theirs” five ones. Anyway, if put joking aside, - all this considered above requires very specific and masterly arrangements.

The musicians of the orchestra play the best contemporary and collection instruments as well as the best musical equipment. Saying in general, the musical instruments` collection of the band is the best in Europe and definitely one of the best in the world. There are also the rarities: exclusive bass “Tobias”, electro – bass “Steinberger”, unique masterly electro – guitar “Ukranian Strat” from the world – wide well – known “Fender” trade-mark, electro – organ “Hammond B-3”, such unique acoustic key – boards as “Yamaha Grand Piano”, “Rhodes Piano”, “Hohner Clavinet”, acoustic digital grand piano “Roland CP - 109”, and different most modern synthesizers of the best trade-marks, the unbelievable DW drum – sets and LP percussion especially made on the orchestra` s order, best Dj` s equipment, and also the unique collection of the wind instruments from the “Bach” and “Selmer” trade-marks.

The orchestra has its own audio- and video- production. The true pearl of the collective is its recording studio, the core of which is being provided with the most contemporary 48 – channel sound console DIGIDESIGN of the 64 sound recording channels PROTOOLS 7 HD and 7.1 Surround acoustic system of the TANNOY trade – mark that is being used for the DOLBY –sound re-creation, or the unique devices like legendary lamp compressors Universal Audio LA-2A, the set of the best microphones, between which you can find the highest quality NEUMAN U-87 and much more of the professional musical fittings. All this makes any of the “RadioBand` s” recordings brilliant and most authentic ones.

The cult orchestra is the all – time best school for the young musicians` training and rehearsals, -to play by the side of the experienced colleagues in the first – class conditions especially provided for the sake of the creativity process itself, actually, makes very good results.

“Alex Fokin RadioBand” is a magic sight of the rhythms and striking aggressive drive; the real passion and at the same time, shrewd grace; it is the virtuoso mastery and technique, refined image and tremendous artistry. The orchestra is being very proud of its very young audience and fans who` s age ranges from the 18 till 40 years old. This is the youth that “should be reckoned the future of our nation”, -according to the words of the leader Alex Fokin.
